Founding

In October 1956, a decision was made to build a full-cycle facility on the Lower Kama for large-scale production of various synthetic rubbers and latexes, as well as monomers used in their manufacturing. The area near the production facility became home to a settlement, and later, the city of Nizhnekamsk. In 1967, the facility made its first batch of products.

Soviet times

Starting 1970, the Nizhnekamsk Petrochemical Plant had been laucnhing new monomer and polymer production lines every year. In 1980s, the facility began producing ethylene oxide, propylene and styrene oxide, polyether, butadiene (manufactured using oxidative dehydrogenation), propylene trimers, alkylphenol, etc. In 1991, Nizhnekamskneftekhim came under the jurisdiction of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

In 1993, the Company was reorganised into JSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim. In 2000s, the Company started to gradually implement projects aimed at launching the production of polystyrene, polypropylene, polyethylene and ABS plastics, neodymium and lithium catalyst based polybutadiene rubber, chlorinated and bromobutyl rubbers.
